Hormone Pellet Therapy -SRQ

I recently started Hormone Pellet Therapy at Virtue of Health. If you are new to my blog welcome! If you have been following for awhile you know about my health journey and healing process with Virtue of Health.

Here are some links to catch up:

What is Pellet Therapy?

Pellets are tiny, custom-compounded therapies for symptoms that stem from hormonal imbalances. This therapy keeps hormone levels consistent through the day and avoids roller-coaster-like effects from orally administered or topically administered hormones. The pellets BioTE uses contains bio-identical hormones, derived from natural sources such as yams. The pellets contain hormones identical to the ones found in the human body. Studies have shown that bio-identical hormones have fewer side effects than synthetic hormones.

Bio-identical Hormone Replacement Therapy (BHRT) begins to work within seven to ten days of your pellet insertion. Once a pellet is inserted into the gluteal area, a consistent dose of bio-identical (naturally derived) hormones enter the bloodstream. Every BHRT pellet is custom-compounded to the patient's unique physiology. Tailoring every treatment to the patient helps ensure the greatest possible success in achieving hormonal balance. Furthermore, the pellets are derived from plants, not animals, which closely mimic the hormones naturally present within your body. Studies have shown that bio-identical hormone pellet therapy may offer you the most benefits.

The in office procedure was very simple. I was injected with lidocaine which burned a little on my left butt cheek. Then there was a small insertion where the pellet was placed. No pain at all with the cutting or insertion. I had to have a bandage over the insertion area for 48 hrs but was healed after that.

I will say this that the procedure was simple and much easier then me having to take testosterone everyday. I have digestion issues so orally taking pills is a hit or miss for me. I tend to not absorb as much as I should.

A month later I could already tell a huge difference. I had so much energy. I was sleeping better and overall felt great. I felt back to myself.

I highly recommend this procedure if you are having hormone level issues. I now go in every three months to get this done and I am feeling so much better than when I was orally taking testosterone.

Frequently asked questions about pellets

What can I expect from BHRT pellet therapy?

As each patient’s symptoms are unique, so is each patient’s path to hormone optimization. Most patients report some symptom resolution in as little as two to four weeks, but full optimization may take up to six months. Your journey will be customized to fit your specific needs. It takes more than one to two weeks for your hormones to get out of balance, so expect it to take time to resolve.

What type of pharmacies do we work with at BioTE Medical?

The hormones BioTE Medical uses in our pellets are custom-compounded. BioTE Medical uses highly specialized pharmacies that are registered with the FDA. The pellets are compliant to the FDA sterility process. BioTE Medical pharmacies employ environmental monitoring per every pellet batch. This is all overseen by a dedicated FDA compliance officer.

What kind of estrogen is in the bio-identical pellets?

BioTE Medical uses bio-identical estradiol in the pellets, meaning that the chemical structure is the same as the hormones naturally produced in your body.

What should I do before the procedure?

One week before the procedure, if possible, stop all NSAIDs (aspirin, ibuprofen, acetaminophen, naproxen sodium, etc.). No fasting in advance of the procedure is required.

What test is required before the insertion?

At a minimum, Virtue of Health requires our comprehensive hormone blood panel.

What happens during the in-office insertion?

During the in-office visit, which only takes a few minutes, patients are brought into the exam room, and the insertion site is numbed. The most common site of insertion is the upper buttocks. A small incision is then made for pellet insertion. Once the pellet is inserted, the insertion site is covered with a small bandage.

What happens during the week following the insertion?

After pellet insertion, it's best to eliminate lower body exercise. You can walk, but extraneous activity is not recommended. Swimming, hot tubs, and bathtubs are to be avoided; however, showers are permitted. After removal of the bandage, normal activity may resume.

How often is pellet insertion necessary?

As each patient’s symptoms are unique, so is each patient’s path to hormone optimization. Your journey will be customized to fit your specific needs. It takes more than one to two weeks for your hormones to get out of balance, so expect it to take time to resolve.

What happens to pellets after insertion?

Since the pellets are bio-identical and contain nothing more than the hormones your body naturally produces, the pellets are completely dissolved and absorbed, leaving nothing behind.
