I visited TooJay's Deli Sarasota location and had the best time with my husband.

The first thing I noticed about TooJay's is how friendly everyone is the minute you walk-in. I noticed this when I went to brunch there a few days back but I will say I have not seen amazing customer service like this in a long time! Smiles on everyone's face and you can tell everyone loves working there and also loves the food which sells the restaurant alone! I met the Sarasota General Manager, Aaron Livingston and he had so many great family stories that paired with what he recommended on the menu. Every recommendation he gave to us ended up being delicious.

We started off the night with some wine and homemade rye bread. If you are a big foodie like me and love fresh bread.. be careful! You may fill up on all the delicious bread before your appetizer even gets there!

I also had the Matzo Ball Soup (light and fluffy matzo balls in a rich chicken broth with carrots and onions). I am embarrassed to say I have never had matzo ball soup before! Being from New York that is hard to believe. It is like saying you never had New York pizza and you live there! This soup is the perfect comfort meal soup and definitely in my top 5 soups now.

For an appetizer we had Mini Potato Pancakes (crunchy sampling of our signature scratch-made pancakes served with sour cream and applesauce) The dish reminded me of living in New York and my moms potato pancakes. It was a great starter and loved the flavor.

For our entrees we were able to sample a little bit of everything.

Reuben (hot corned beef, sauerkraut and Swiss cheese with home-style Russian dressing served on rye bread grilled to perfection.)

Open Faced Turkey Melt (Turkey piled high on rye with tomato, smokehouse bacon and Russian dressing, topped with melted Muenster cheese.)

Deli Dogs (Two all-beef franks grilled to perfection. 1 dog topped with sauerkraut. 2nd dog topped with bacon & cheddar cheese)

Avocado BLT (stacked with five slices of smokehouse bacon, sliced avocado and lemon garlic aioli. Served on toasted Challah)

Pastrami Grilled Cheese (thinly sliced, tender pastrami and melted American cheese are grilled to perfection on freshly baked Challah bread)

Honestly each bite of every sandwich was delicious. There was not one menu item that I did not love. My favorite was probably the Deli Dogs and Avocado BLT. So many flavors in every dish and if you are from up North a ton of nostalgia with every taste.

We thought we were done eating but we had to try TooJay's world known desserts. They are known for having some of the best desserts around. Coconut Cake (White vanilla cake, layered with classic white frosting and coconut, garnished with coconut flakes) and Banana Dream (Moist banana cake, rich banana cream, chocolate chips, walnuts and milk chocolate icing.) Both were fabulous and I can't wait to go back to try more desserts.

Our date night meal was perfect and we can not wait to go back. Not only is all of the food amazing, customer service impeccable but it is a place to go to that feels like home. If you are missing maybe your mom's or grandma's home-cooking, TooJay's will bring that warm feeling back that you have been missing.

There are a ton of TooJay's locations in Florida that you can visit. If you are local to Sarasota I highly recommend going to the Westfield Siesta Key (3501 South Tamiami Trail, Sarasota, FL) location. When you go make sure to ask for the manager Aaron Livingston and most importantly make sure you go hungry!
